I Thank My God

Well, Fellow Crafters, it has been a long time since my last post. I'll just say that life happens, and sometimes we are drawn away from our crafting creativity to things that are more on the front burner. GOD IS GOOD!!!  The last couple of days I have been making cards once again in my craft room.

:o)

So, today's card is a very simple one that will fit into a regular A2 envelope; the background paper is black with bright pinks and yellows and greens, so I wanted to draw the eye away from the "darkness" of the image to capitalize on the brighter colors. The flowers are from a discontinued SU die; don't know the name of it. The sentiment is also a retired SU stamp, and is cut out with a Spellbinders Classic Circle die. I rubbed a bit of pink ink around the edges to give it some interest and to pick up the pink in the background flowers. The die-cut flowers and the sentiment are accented with pink half pearls, and a plain ribbon finishes the card.

Good Afternoon, Crafters,

Just bumping around in my craft room today and came up with this card; I haven't used a purple/orchid/lavender palette in a long time, but decided to try putting something together with these colors. The Stampin' Up stamp I used was given to me a year ago by a fellow crafting friend.

New EF from Spellbinders!

Good Morning, Crafters,

Did you know that Spellbinders has a new product? They are embossing folders that also cut; how exciting is that?????

Today's post shows a very simple card made with the Spellbinders Regal Swirl EF.  I love how elegant this die/EF makes the paper look; it cuts out and embosses in one pass through your machine. What a concept!  I used a simple red background and stamped a sentiment onto some white cardstock and backed it with red cardstock. It's very simple, but I love how it makes the paper look. One thing:  I wish the paper would have shown up whiter; it is supposed to be a bright white paper over a red background. Looking at the picture, though, I think you can get the idea:

These products are pricey for just a regular EF, but since they cut out as well, maybe the cost is okay. They are $9.99 at the Spellbinders site, plus shipping. If you have Amazon Prime, you can get them there for $9.99, but with free shipping.

Love how this makes the paper look, and will be using these a lot in the future.

A Teddy Bear Thank You

You may remember me mentioning my Allstar Cardmaking Friend Jill, who makes 300 cards a month for charities. Well, she's at it again, and invited me to join her in making some thank you cards for nurses at a local children's hospital. You can check out Jill's wonderful blog here. She posts really helpful hints in addition to cards she has made and cards that others have sent her for charities that she ships cards to. Check it out and see for yourself!  I don't know anyone like my wonderful friend, Jill!

So, there is a really cute die that came in a Tattered Lace magazine. If you are familiar with their publication, you know that with each issue you get a free die. I don't have a subscription, but have purchased one issue at a time now and then. The die used for this card is a charming little teddy bear that is holding up a sign. The die came with some additional stamps, but none of them said "Thank You," so I used a Stampin' Up stamp from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set. Dimensional stickies were placed underneath both paws for some added interest. Also used were:
  • Sizzix Oval Scalloped Die
  • Darice Floral EF
  • Martha Stewart Pine Branch Punch
  • Paper Studio Tiny Flower Punch
  • Nuvo Black Crystal Drops (for the eyes)
  • White Liquid Paint
  • Ribbon

Pink Roses and Polka Dots

Today I was into using scraps left over from other projects. Years ago I got a set of note cards with pretty embossed flowers; there are three sets, each with a different floral theme. Since I didn't use them back then and I make pretty much all my own cards now, it was a good time to recycle them. You can see below the lovely pink rose floral theme on the lower half of the card. The upper part is pink polka dotted paper which has been embossed with a Paper Studio Swirls EF. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up, Avant Garden; it is die cut with a Sizzix faux stitched oval die. A double-looped hand-tied bow finishes the card.

Masculine Card #2

Making masculine cards is really outside my comfort zone, but because of the need for masculine cards sent to our military posts, I am pushing my limits.  Is anyone else having trouble finding stamps that are masculine appropriate? If you know of some, please let me know...

Today's card is made using a Stampin' Up Lovely as a Tree stamp with two dies, Sizzix Stitched Squares and Sue Wilson Madison Square. I dabbed ink onto the tree with a Q-Tip using green and brown; I rubbed the tip on plain paper to dull the color so that it would not be very intense. The background is made with Spellbinders Basket Weave EF. I used four layers of aluminum foil and ran it through my Big Shot, cut it down to size, and used a sponge applicator to put on brown acrylic paint over the entire surface. This gave it an aged appearance which looks very masculine. A green grosgrain ribbon adds extra interest.

Tip:  Next time I do this, I will glue the foil layers together, as they had a tendency to separate.

Sympathy Card

A dear friend of mine lost her battle with cancer last week; she will be sorely missed by so many people. I made a card to send to her family members, as I am sure they will be bombarded with so many kind thoughts during their time of bereavement, this will be one of many sentiments they will receive.

I used a Darice Julia's Garden EF for the background, rounded all the edges of the card and used a Stampin' Up Heartfelt Blossoms set to stamp the flowers and the sentiment. The white part of the card is sprayed with shimmer mist, but it is so subtle that my camera didn't pick up the sparkles very well. There is a glimpse of the sheen in the second picture below. The card is finished with a knotted ribbon at the bottom, and accented with half pearls.
